14 Months Old

Our little Maclain is 14 months old today... hard to believe but here we are!

I took her to the doctor this morning for her checkup and everything looked great.  Here are her stats:

-Weight: 22 pounds, 2 ounces
-Height: 28.75 inches
-Head: 45 cm

The main thing I wanted to talk to the doctor about was her eating.  She is still eating baby food and has not been a fan of table food so far.  In the office that we switched to you don't always see the same doctor.  You just see the next available one.  It is great is some ways because the wait is not nearly as long (which was the reason we swapped in the first place).  But the downside is that you get different opinions on the same topics when you see one doctor at one appointment and a different doctor at the next.  When I asked the doc at her 12 month about her not eating table food she said it was no big deal and that she would wean herself off the baby food when she was ready.  Well, 2 months later we have not made any real progress in that direction.  We offer her what we are having and she is great about trying things, but she has not liked any of it.

The doctor we saw today basically said we need to stop giving her baby food and only give her table food.  She assured me Maclain will not starve herself and that she is most likely filling herself up on the snacks we give her (like crackers).  She would eat crackers all day if we let her, and I know it's only going to get worse the older she gets if we don't do something now.  I will admit, I am probably partly to blame on this issue b/c one word that describes Maclain well is feisty.  She is not a pushover.  She knows what she wants and she is very persistent about it.  These are great qualities, but are also very hard at this young age.  I give in to her a lot.  When she cries, it does not take me long to give her a goldfish to get us through.  I know, I have to change that!  So, we are starting new and making some changes.  Lunch today went well overall.  She tried everything I gave her and didn't eat much of it, but she did eat some.  We will get there.

Ok, here are some things I want to remember about this age:

-Sleeps wonderfully... naps 3-4 hours a day (sometimes broken up into 2 naps) and sleeps 12 hours at night.
-Still pretty attached to her paci, and we will probably start leaving it in her bed soon
-Can walk, but still mostly chooses to crawl
-Loves to play outside and her favorite outside toy is Maddox's red car that she now knows how to drive completely on her own.
-Is FEARLESS... will go down slides forwards and backwards and is not afraid to try anything
-Is not a huge fan of books yet and still closes them when we open them
-Has 6 teeth... 4 on top and 2 on bottom
-Is getting to be a better traveler
-Is pretty clingy to me and definitely has stranger anxiety
-Loves the puppet show at storytime and likes to dance along to the songs

I sure am loving this little girl and can't wait to see her personality develop even more!

Disney World 2013

Daniel and I planned a last minute trip to Disney World this past weekend.  We decided that we were only going to take Maddox since he would appreciate it the most and is at an age where he would really have fun.  My parents offered to keep Maclain and they really enjoyed getting some alone time with her.  I used Priceline and got a ridiculously cheap place for us to stay Friday and Saturday night. We arrived in Orlando about 10:30 Friday night and went straight to bed.  We hit the ground running bright and early Saturday morning.

We decided to only visit Magic Kingdom since we were just going to be there one full day.  They opened at 9:00 and we got there about 9:30.  It was pretty crowded, but since we did the fast pass with our tickets we never had to stand in a line longer than 10-15 minutes.  It was great!  Maddox had his share of meltdowns, but overall he did really well and had a great time.  We saw a couple of parades, met Buzz and Woody (the highlight for Maddox), rode lots of rides, and stayed through the fireworks.  Maddox crashed in the stroller on our way out of the park.  It was a fun, full day and I am very thankful we got to take him when we did.

Super excited to be there!

Waiting in line to ride the trolley

Fresh Air

The weather couldn't be any better today for being outside. I am loving this nice, mild winter we are having... It's perfect for us since my kids would stay outside all day if I let them. Sometimes your soul just needs some fresh air..,

Look Who's Walking

Yes, our sweet little fiesty girl is now a walker.  She started taking a few steps at a time shortly after turning one, but now she is walking more and more.  If she is already standing she will walk until she falls, then prefers to crawl because she knows she can get to where she is going much faster that way.  She is doing really well, though!  It looks so strange to see her walking... I am still not used to it!!

Cupcake Treat

As mentioned in my previous post, Maddox has been doing awesome at using the potty.  Every day he does better and better and today it has really seemed to click.  So much so that he decided go #2 on the potty as well.  I had been promising him that I would make some cupcakes when he decided to go, but tried not to pressure him or make it a huge deal if he didn't.  I knew that eventually he would cave on his own, and sure enough he did.  He got SO excited that I was going to make him cupcakes that he had to call and tell everyone (Daddy, Lolli and Nana).  He was one excited little boy, and I was one proud Momma!  As luck would have it, I ran to get the ingredients out and realized I was one egg short.  Thankfully my neighbor was home and she saved the day.  It was a close one!

I think Maddox loved his cupcake...

Back On The Bandwagon

We jumped back on the potty training bandwagon this weekend and this time I can safely say we are not falling off.  Daniel had Monday and Tuesday off for New Year's and we decided it would be the perfect time to tackle the inevitable.  We pulled out the underwear and did half a day Saturday after my parents left, half a day Sunday after church, and all day Monday and Tuesday.  I have to say, I am super proud of our big boy.  He has had a few accidents since we started, but not very many at all.  He will sometimes tell us when he needs to go, but mostly we just take him every hour or two.  He can hold it a pretty long time which is a good thing.  We even ventured out for lunch yesterday in his big boy underwear and he stayed dry the whole time.  I have been worried about how being out in public would go b/c ever since we tried back in the summer he has been scared of the big potty and would only talk about going on the little one.  For whatever reason, he decided he was over his fear and will gladly sit on the big potty now.  Thank goodness.  I really was not looking forward to taking our potty with us everywhere (although I would have).  We are still doing diapers for nap and bed times, but he did stay dry during his nap yesterday so we'll see how it goes.  I am one happy Momma!

The cutest sight ever!
