Preschool Halloween Party

This morning was Maddox's class' Halloween parade and party.  Bless his sweet, shy heart... the parade was a disaster for him because he does NOT like for all eyes to be looking at him.  Each class came in through the side door of the auditorium and the kids went up one by one and stood in front of the parents so everyone could see their costume.  Most kids loved the attention... Maddox, not so much.  I could see the meltdown coming and to be honest, it made my heart hurt for him.  He looked so cute standing up there, but he was so embarassed!  He was the most handsome doctor, nonetheless!

Afterwards, each class had their little party and got to enjoy some treats.  He loved that part and had gotten over the parade episode by then.  It was such a cute little party and I was glad I got to be there to see him enjoying it.  Such a cutie, this little fella:

Can't wait for trick or treating tonight!

Trunk Or Treat

On Sunday night our church had a trunk or treat for the kids.  There was a pretty good turnout and the kids had a great time seeing each other's costumes and playing together.  Maddox dressed up as a doctor and Maclain was an owl.  If I had thought things through from the beginning, I would have made Maclain a matching doctor outfit in pink.  Oh well... we have plenty more Halloweens to dress them up in matching costumes.  Maddox's costume turned out pretty cute...  the sleeves were a touch poofy, but I tried to iron them down as best I could so it didn't have a girly look.  He was the cutest doctor I have ever seen if I say so myself.

Several of these pictures are blurry, but it's all I've got!  I need to go back to using my real camera soon! :)

A Day Out With Thomas 2012

On Saturday we ventured over to Cordele, Ga and met my parents for A Day Out With Thomas.  I have been so excited to go and have been planning it for over a year now.  I would have loved to go last year, but we were not sure if Maddox was quite old enough to really enjoy it (plus, I was 36 weeks pregnant).  It was so worth it and Maddox loved every minute of it.  It was an experience we will never forget.  He rode Thomas, played with the train tables, got his face painted, got a Thomas tattoo, and was in SUCH a great mood!  Fun was definitely had by all!

Fun Friend Visit

On Tuesday my wonderful friend April came to visit with her two kids, Van and Lillian.  They stayed through Friday morning and I am SO GLAD they were able to come. The last time April was here was a few weeks after Maclain was born... it is always nice to have a visit to look forward to.  We got to catch up on a lot of things, and finally had some uninterrupted talking time after the kids were in bed.  It was glorious!  The kids played very well together, too, so that added to the fun we were able to have.

April and I go way back... we met our freshman year in college and were roomates our sophomore year.  She and Daniel are also first cousins, but we became friends long before I ever met Daniel.  Now she is family AND an awesome friend.  Thank you, April, for coming to hang out with us!! :)

11 Months Old

Yes, it is that time again!  We are now only a month away from celebrating one whole year with our little Maclain.  We are smitten with our sweet girl:

Some tidbits:
-Definitely lets you know what she does and does not want... either by shrieking very loudly or pointing
-Takes one big nap a day, usually 2:00-5:00
-Is not all that interested in her bottles anymore... it is a struggle to get her to take as many ounces a day as she is supposed to be getting.
-Is NOT snuggly... she is too busy for snuggles.  She wants to be down and on the go at all times
-We are still having to use the bath seat for now because she wants to be all over the place and tries to crawl out or drink the water from the spout.  Crazy girl!
-Will try any food we give her, but does not like much except crackers and cheerios/puffs at this point
-Is getting faster at cruising
-Is a big climber.  She can climb onto the train table that is in the play room and can climb into Maddox's bed.  Her favorite place to climb into is the dish washer.
-Loves riding on Daniel's shoulders
-Still has stranger anxiety, but we have discovered she does better at church if Daniel drops her off at class and the nursery than she does if I take her
-Not into books yet, she closes most of them as soon as I open them to read to her

Can't wait to celebrate her 1st birthday next month! :)

Boo Boo

Somehow we have been very lucky with Maddox so far in the boo boo department.  He has not had any major injuries or falls.  Overall he is a very cautious child and has rarely ever even had to have a band-aid.  Last night was an exception.  He was playing in our backyard yesterday and took a major spill... he crash landed into a brick wall. :(  He actually took it pretty well.  I, however, did not...

The picture does not show it very clearly, but he literally looked like he had an egg sitting on his forehead.  We brought him inside, gave him a bowl of Reese's Pieces (don't judge), and immmediately iced it.  I called the doc for safe measure, who actually recommended taking him to the ER.  We decided against it since he was acting totally normal and showed no signs of a concussion or anything.  We wanted to watch him at home for a while and by this morning you could barely tell anything had ever happened.  He was quite a sport, let me tell ya.  But I knew he would not have been if we had to spend 5 hours in the ER.  I am so thankful he was ok, and I am sure this is the first of many incidents like this one.

Poor baby :(

Grandparent Time

Daniel's parents got to come see us this past weekend.  We always have so much fun when they are around and this time was no exception!  They arrived mid-morning on Thursday and got to stay through lunch on Sunday.  We went out for lunch each day, went to the park, drove around town a little bit, took a trip to Wakulla Springs for a boat ride, played in the bakyard, played trains, and so much more!  Maddox was very upset when Lolli and G had to go home and now he is eagerly awaiting Maclain's first birthday party when he will get to see them again.  We are so blessed that Maddox and Maclain have such hands-on, fun grandparents that love them the way they do!

Lesson Learned

Poor Maclain has quite the boo boo on her sweet little foot.  One day last week we were playing outside and it was pretty warm so I didn't have shoes on her.  I turned my back for one second and the next thing I knew she was crawling on the concrete.  She didn't seem bothered at all and would not stay off of it.  Later that night we realized what the scrapes were from.  Now I can't even ler her crawl in the house without socks on or it reopens the wound and she starts bleeding.  Poor thing... lesson learned on my part!

It looks like I may need to invest in some girly band-aids b/c I think this sweet girl is going to need them a lot more often than her big brother. One word that does NOT describe her is cautious.  :(

Pumpkin Patch 2012

Mom and I took Maddox and Maclain to Lazenby Farms when we were in town last weekend.  I wish I could say it went well, but it was quite the fiasco.  Maddox was super tired and not all that into it, and Maclain was happy but into everything.  I am so ready for her to walk so she does not ruin all of her clothes by crawling through dirt all the time.  Despite the craziness, I managed to get a few pictures.

Pretty much sums it up :)

Found the one he wanted

I wish Maclain's eyes were open :(
2nd time riding a pony... his favorite part of the trip :)

Maclain's 1st time riding a pony... not afraid of
 anything!
Just hangin' out in the corn!

I love 'em to pieces!

Sidekick

While Maddox was having fun at preschool this morning Maclain and I ventured out to tackle my list of errands.  Our first stop was Home Depot to pick out some paint for our kitchen.  After a year, the red kitchen has to go.  I thought I really liked the color when we moved in (it was already red), but I feel like our floors also have a reddish tint to them which seems to give the whole kitchen a red glow.  It is time for a change.  We are going with a blue/green color that we are pulling from the curtains. I will save the details of the redo for another post, but in the meantime I had to share this...

"Helping" Mommy pick out paint

I have to point out that this sweet girl finally has some shoes...  last week I planned to go to a local shoe store and get her foot measured so that while I was at the beach I could go to an outlet and get her some.  My plan backfired, though, because she wore a different size in all 3 of the shoes that she tried on.  I had no choice but to get them there.  I am embarassed to admit how much I paid for them, but I guess the important thing is that she has shoes now, right??

PS - How is she big enough to be riding in the buggy now??
